Sustainability Showcase Series — Abra Lee “Working With the Hands”
February 4, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm EST
Join the Sustainability Institute online, Fridays at noon for our signature Sustainability Showcase Speaker Series, this year themed around the idea of “Driving It Home” — taking the big-picture sustainability issues and driving them down to the local and personal level. Our first speaker for the spring is Abra Lee, a self-proclaimed horticulturist extraordinaire who is “half country bumpkin, half bougie, occasionally extra, and inherently Southern.” Lee is the author of Conquer the Soil: Black America and the Untold Stories of Our Country’s Gardeners, Farmers, and Growers. She will be speaking on the theme of “Working With the Hands” and highlighting the hidden historical contributions of African Americans to horticulture and gardening, including an alumnus of Penn State Mont Alto.
All showcases are free and open to all; pre-registration is required.
