Intersections Film Series — Newtok
October 16 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EDT
Join Penn State Sustainability for the second screening in our 2024-25 Intersections film program focused this year on the theme of Mind Over Matter. Newtok covers the true story of a Yup’ik community’s fight to save its culture and home from rising water and erosion, all while being failed by an American government unwilling to tackle climate change and its potential to turn Americans into climate refugees. Yet the film is not an elegy but a paean to the resilience and perseverance of a community resiliently determined to survive and to value their land and culture.
Following the film, we will feature a post-film discussion panel of Penn State faculty and experts on issues of climate change and community resilience.
The film screening will be online and is free and open to all. Pre-registration is required at this link.
