Join Penn State Sustainability and the Penn State Fashion Club in welcoming Miss Pennsylvania, Miranda Moore, for a visit to Penn State University Park on April 17, 2024 to discuss the environmental and social impacts of fast fashion and ways we can combat this global problem. Her visit will include a conversation about fast fashion, a student clothing swap, and a sustainable fashion show.

Miranda Moore, age 25, was crowned Miss Pennsylvania 2023 at the historic Appell Center for the Performing Arts in York, PA.  A native of Harrisburg, PA, Miranda is an Environmental Engineer and Graduate Student at the University of Pennsylvania, Executive Certificate in Social Impact Strategy.  She hopes to obtain a Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania and become a Professionally Licensed Engineer (PE).

Through Take Action in Fashion, her community service initiative, she combines her technical sustainability background with partnerships with influential brands and innovative nonprofits, to both raise awareness of and provide solutions for the  increasing consequences the fashion industry has
on our people, our planet, and our health. Through this initiative, her goals are to change the way we:
● Buy – Encouraging secondhand shopping and sustainably made products
● Wear – Promoting outfit repeating, rental services, and capsule wardrobes
● Think – Teaching people about purchasing power and enacting change with our dollars

These three simple steps make Take Action in Fashion relatable and relevant. They address the entire lifecycle of garments, and resultantly provide various sustainable solutions. This intentional framework starts conversations that inspire people to make a difference, and empowers them with the tools needed to make attainable change.

While on campus April 17, Miranda will

• Lead a fast-fashion conversation with local company, Organic Climbing, from 12:30-1:30pm in room 233AB in the HUB-Robeson Center. There will be a clothing collection and swap (attendees can swap or take donated clothes with them to repurpose the items!) after the talk from 1:30-2:30pm, so please bring some clothing with you! • Attend and offer opening remarks at a sustainable fashion show at 3-Dots from 7-9pm in collaboration with the Penn State Fashion Society.
