Join us for the first film in our “From Anxiety to Action” strand of Penn State Sustainability’s Intersections film program. This series highlights the efforts of people confronting different seemingly intractable sustainability challenges and not getting paralyzed by fear but instead working towards collective solutions. In this case Dear Mandela highlights the work of informal settlers in post-apartheid South Africa who confront the African National Congress over their lack of housing despite rights guaranteed in the South African constitution. Facing down political pressure and threats of violent reprisal, they pursue their case all the way to the South African Supreme Court to fight for the rights of the displaced and disenfranchised. An inspiring tale and one you won’t want to miss.

Film is free and open to all and will be followed by a post-film panel discussion. Screening online on Wednesday, October 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. This film screening builds upon the visit by Dr. Mamphela Ramphele as part of the Colloquium on the Environment hosted by Penn State Sustainability the week before.
