The State College Borough is proud to be partnering with the Penn State Student Farm Club and Mount Nittany Health to bring back the Community Seed Swap. This event is an opportunity for individuals, families, and students to receive free seeds and tools to grow their own food and participate in interactive activities and workshops. We hope to incite curiosity in sustainable food systems, increase food independence, and empower people to take ownership of their health in the month of April leading up to Earth Day.
Learning to grow your own food from seeds can be a valuable skill to help fight food insecurity. We recognize the indispensable role that local non-profit organizations play in addressing food insecurity in the State College Borough and beyond. Unfortunately, many people facing food insecurity are afraid of a stigma surrounding asking and receiving help. Growing your own food and teaching others to do so can be an effective way to help someone meet their food needs more independently and open up the conversation around food insecurity.
