Sustainability Showcase Series — Artist Diane Burko
October 3 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm EDT
Join Penn State Sustainability and the Palmer Museum of Art for the second Fall 2024 Sustainability Showcase Series Speaker, award-winning Pennsylvania-based artist Diane Burko. Artist-activist Diane Burko has traveled the globe in search of evidence of humankind’s impact on the natural world. In her monumental painting currently on view in the newly reopened Palmer Museum’s inaugural exhibition Made in PA, Burko bears witness to the unprecedented convergence of global crises—the COVID pandemic, climate change, and sociopolitical unrest—since 2020. Burko will share “before and after” insights about her career, her ongoing engagement with climate scientists and environmentalists, and the “unprecedented” moment we find ourselves living in. Burko’s artist lecture is free and open to all (and will be live-streamed) and will take place Thursday, October 3, at 6 p.m. (EDT). Pre-registration is required for online attendees.
Burko will be visiting Penn State University Park October 2-4 to discuss her work, which is inspired by questions of climate change and place. Her work is featured. She will be joining us for a public artist talk at the Palmer Museum, critiques with Penn State art students, and meetings and roundtables with campus and community groups.
