The eclipse of the sun on April 8 will be observable across the United States from Texas to Vermont. In Scranton, the sun will be 95% blocked. Accordingly, we will organize an eclipse viewing event on our campus including:
  1. Weather permitting, an outdoor eclipse observation using our two telescopes. The images will be displayed on TV screens outdoors and indoors. In addition, there will be solar glasses available for direct viewing.
  2. Indoor eclipse screening of our own observations, in parallel with the real-time NASA broadcasting of the eclipse.
  3. In coordination with the Engineering Department of Penn State Hazleton, the Penn State Scranton Sustainability Council will be hosting a solar panel demonstration on the Patio.
