Join us for a Penn State Teach-In as part of Labor Spring, a nationwide series of teach-ins focused on worker justice that includes 60 events in 27 states. There are two central events on campus:

  • Thursday, March 30 at 7:45pm (121 Sparks): Elissa McBride, National Secretary- Treasurer of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), will deliver a lecture entitled “A Rising Tide: Student-Worker Solidarity and the Future of Organizing.” This event is the School of Labor and Employment Relation’s 28th annual Philip Murray Memorial Labor Lecture.
  • Friday, March 31 from 10:30-12:00pm (Charlotte Ray Lounge, 1st floor HUB-Robeson): from 10:30-11:30am, unions and student groups will give presentations on local battles for responsible contracting, safe staffing in hospitals, and apparel workers’ rights. Then, at 11:30am, the United Students Against Sweatshops will lead a march calling on President Neeli Bendapudi to suspend Penn State’s contract with Nike until workers’ rights violations are remediated.
