Crop Mob: Jade Family Farm

Sunday, April 23, 2017 - 8:30am to 3:00pm
Jade Family Farm

Jade Family Farm is about an hour from State College and is a small, diverse, certified organic farm growing mostly vegetables, with 60 fruit trees, 2 cats and dog, 7 milking goat does, and we hope goat kids yet to be born. Farmer John Eisenstein is a PSU grad (German major), and his father Jim, the unpaid field hand, is a retired PSU professor. We are located on the slopes of Tuscarora Mountain just below our forest. We have a forest management plan, wild flower plantings, nests for mason bees for fruit pollination, and pasture.

The Crop Mob will be an "active learning" experience which will introduce volunteers to how to plant goose berries and fruit trees properly. As crop mobsters dig holes for the trees and plant gooseberries and currants, we will talk about the benefits, challenges, and techniques of growing organic fruit. We anticipate about 6 hours of activity.
