This spring, the Center for Economic and Community Development is pleased to host Daniela Aiello, Assistant Professor in Penn State’s Department of Geography, for a “Stories from the Field” talk on April 16.
Join us for a conversation about Daniela’s comparative ethnographic research looking at tenant organizing around two sites of extreme housing exploitation in Vancouver, BC and Atlanta, Georgia. Drawing on two examples of legal “wins” for increased tenant protections and rent control, she will discuss how approaches directed toward achieving legal protections can potentially backfire against the most vulnerable residents. Through this discussion, Daniela will explore what a politics of deep relationality can contribute to tenant organizing.
This talk series aims to explore the “why” and “how” of community engagement and applied research: why folks approach their work the way they do and how it looks and feels on the ground.
Wednesday, April 16 from 12-1 PM EST in 214 Ferguson Building and via Zoom.
