Fall Bike-to-Work Day celebrates and encourages sustainable commuting

August 12, 2016

Penn State’s Sustainability Institute and Transportation Services are collaborating with the community organization CentreBike to encourage Penn Staters to cycle to work on Thursday, September 8th to celebrate our designation at a Bicycle Friendly Community and Penn State's status as a Bicycle Friendly University. These groups will have a table from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Allen Street Gates located at the intersection of College Avenue and Allen Street in State College where people can register bikes, ask questions about cycling, hear updates on bicycle trail expansions and improvement, and learn about future group ride events.

If you have never cycled to work, the CentreBike group can match interested people with mentors who will cycle with them, answering questions and showing them comfortable routes to take. Commuting by bike offers several advantages in addition to exercise and financial savings; it can also save time for those with satellite parking spots.

How to participate:

  • Commit to bike to work on Thursday, September 8 and/or stop by Allen Street Gates (8 a.m.-4 p.m.)
  • Encourage friends to commit by sharing an image above in emails or social media

Share your commute photos all month with #CentreFallBike or @sustainPSU on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. You can also directly share on the CentreBike or Sustainability at Penn State Facebook pages.
