It’s Earth Week at Penn State. Activities and events are scheduled at not only University Park, but across the state at other Penn State campuses. Take part in the festivities that celebrate the treasures of our earth and how we care for our planet.
At University Park:
- Tuesday, April 22 – “Growing Cities” film screening
The director and producer of the award-winning documentary, Dan Susman, will take part in a panel discussions after the film with food experts, agriculture experts and community members. The event is free and open to the public, and will be held at 121 Sparks Building at 6:30 p.m..
- Tuesday, April 22 – Green Team Earth Day Extravaganza
The second annual Earth Day Extravaganza will be held in the lobby of the Outreach Building from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.. Attendees can take part in quizzes, discussions and games.
- Tuesday, April 22 – Student Sustainability Advisory Council Annual Tree Award & Planting
The annual event honors members of Penn State’s community, specifically students, who have shown particular commitment to sustainability during their time at Penn State. A tree is planted in the winner’s name on the MorningStar Solar Home’s grounds. The event is at 1:30 p.m. at the MorningStar Solar Home on Porter Road.
- Tuesday, April 22 – Eco Action Earth Day Celebration
Eco-Action will be on Old Main’s patio and lawn from 6:00-8:00 p.m. potting plants, playing games and more. Environmental groups will be in attendance discussing their efforts as well as live entertainment. Bring your own tee shirt for some tie-dying. The event is free and open to the public.
- Wednesday, April 23 – Cutting Pollution, Adapting Now: How Pennsylvania can Confront Climate Change & Planting
A roundtable discussion will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the Schlow Library Community Room that will center around climate change and its impact on Pennsylvania and the steps we should consider to protect our wildlife, public health and outdoor economy.
- Friday, April 25 - PSIEE First Annual Bar Charts & Barbeque.
A picnic and poster exhibition featuring research and information on more than 50 projects and organizations will be held at the Land and Water Research Building on Hastings Rd. The exhibition will be open until 4:30 p.m.. Students are encouraged to attend. Directions and the schedule are available at http://www.psiee.psu.edu/support/rsvp_picnic.asp.

- Monday, April 21 – Earth Day Week at The Navy Yard – Tour CBEI & GridSTAR Center
Learn about the efforts Penn State has made at The Navy Yard through a collaborative tour of the Consortium for Building Energy and Innovation (CBEI, formerly EEB Hub) and the GridSTAR Center. Touring starts at noon.
- Monday, April 21 & Tuesday, April 22 – Earth Day at Penn State Schuykill
The Schuykill campus will host two free events open to the public and sponsored by the new student-run Penn State Schuykill Sustainability Club and the EPICS Sustainability Program. Monday, there will be a showing of Dr. Seuss’ "The Lorax"along with environmentally-friendly crafts for kids. Tuesday is their annual Eco-Fair will be held on the campus mall walk.
- Tuesday, April 22 – Earth Day at Penn State Altoona
Penn State’s Eco Action organization will celebrate Earth Day with a day-long schedule of events that includes live music. Activities start at 11:00 a.m. at the Slep Student Center. There will be refreshments (including bike blender smoothies), crafts and more. Music will be provided by the Penn State Altoona Ukelele Club, the Backyard Rockers, Rich Edmundson and Nobody’s Heroes. The event is free and open to the public.
- Tuesday, April 22 – Earth Day at Penn State York
Starting at 1:30 p.m., Peter Siwik, a Penn State grad and owner of Siwik Produce Farm, an organic farm in Felton, Pa will speak. The event, in the Community Room of the Joe and Rosie Rulh Student Community Center, is free and open to the public.
- Tuesday, April 22 – Earth Day at Penn State DuBois
A variety of activities promoting green and sustainable practices will start noon in the campus gymnasium. There will be 14 exhibits from organizations as well as activities for children, refreshments and door prizes. The event, which is free and open to the public, is organized by the Penn State DuBois Eco Club and the Green Team.
- Wednesday, April 23 – Penn State Berks Earth Day
Penn State Berks students from BiSC3: Env. Science course are planning an Earth Day celebration open to the public. Community organizations and student projects will be on display in front of the Perkins Student Center starting at 9:00 a.m.
