About the Project

Infusing Concepts of Sustainability Throughout the Recreation, Park and Tourism Management (RPTM) Curriculum was funded by Penn State's Sustainability Institute's Reinvention Fund at the University Park campus in the amount of $15,090.

The goal of this project is to infuse concepts of sustainability throughout the RPTM undergraduate curriculum at Penn State. The focus is how to address the challenges of fully integrating principles of sustainability into not just one course, but within a whole curriculum, from core courses to capstone courses.

Objectives

  • Develop a strategic plan that will guide the development of a curriculum including (a) human, environmental and/or economic sustainability content.

  • Create an advisory board that will be comprised of local, regional, and national leaders representing the diversity of faculty and student interests.

  • Work with key informants (i.e., external professionals/scholars, students) to identify key sustainability practives, procedures, metrics and most effective pedagogical approaches.

  • Continuously monitor the number, diversity and quality of campus and local entities being incorporated into the curriculum.

  • Continuously monitor the number, diversity and quality of partners participating in the project.
