Passively Rotating Soilless Living Wall

About the Project

The Passively Rotating Soilless Living Wall was funded by Penn State's Sustainability Institute's Reinvention Fund at the University Park campus in the amount of $12,730.

The passively rotating living wall is a research project for the Penn State student start-up GreenTowers, an urban agricultural design company. The mission of GreenTowers is to provide everyone the opportunity to grow their own food, no matter where they live.

The passively rotating living wall is based off of vertical farming and living wall concepts. By blending the two designs GreenTowers is creating a self sustaining, aesthetic, and edible building exterior or interior. In the future, food must be grown locally, and the rotating living wall is just the beginning of that push for everyday local produce.
