Penn State focuses on energy conservation and efficiency projects in building systems and utilities. We have committed to a 20% reduction in building energy intensity by 2024 via the Department of Energy's Better Building Challenge. The University has increased its use of combined heat and power (CHP) technology resulting in greater efficiency at the power plants and increased on-site electricity production. Penn State has invested in campus-wide energy conservation measures via its Energy Savings Program. The University is also focusing on renewables with an on-site 2 megawatt solar project at University Park and a large 70 megawatt solar power purchase agreement.
