Human population growth and climate change present major challenges to sustainable food production. Plant biologists are developing and applying new integrative Big Data approaches to address these challenges. This symposium, “Plant Stress-Omics in a Changing Climate”, will bring together scientists who are working at various –omics levels to understand impacts of environmental stress on plants and to develop solutions for agricultural systems of the future.
This Plant Biology symposium, the 20th in a series at Penn State, will serve as a platform to catalyze new interactions and exchange ideas in the diverse fields of plant –omics and plant-related microbial -omics, including genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and their integration. Approximately 20 plenary lectures from worldwide leaders are slated. The symposium includes a workshop on metabolomics and mass spectrometry techniques and a workshop (newly added for Saturday afternoon!) on plant genome editing with CRISPR-Cas9. Ample time will be given to poster sessions, and short talks will be selected from those who submit poster abstracts and are interested in presenting. Postdoctoral researchers and students are particularly encouraged to attend. A limited number of travel grants will be available.
The 20th Biennial Penn State Plant Biology Symposium is organized by the Plant Biology graduate program of the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences, which includes a diverse body of Penn State faculty involved in a variety of plant sciences, including molecular biology, genetics, genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, physiology, breeding, and ecology.
